I’m surprised at the large percentage that don’t use the library. Honestly, how many people go back and re-read books? I understand buying reference books, but book that are read for pleasure – I can probably think of less than 5 books I’ve re-read in my life.
Do you re-read books?
If so, what are some that you’re gone back to read again?

It’s a good question! I re-read a couple of books by Jilly Cooper because I enjoyed them the first time and more than 10 years at elapsed. I also re-read A Woman’s Guide to Adultery by Carol Clewlow, which I knew I’d enjoyed, but couldn’t remember the first thing about the plot. Hmm, still can’t, maybe I’ll read it again!
I also re-read Wuthring Heights as I didn’t ‘get’ it the first time, but found it much more enjoyable on second reading.
I have Wuthering Heights here waiting to be read.
Welcome to my blog!!
I’ve been known to re-read books…. especially if a new book comes out for a series. I will re-read the series to get back into that “world”. Some of the books that I’ve re-read relatively recently:
The Mists of Avalon – Marion Zimmer Bradley
Outlander Series – Diana Gabaldon
I agree with you, series are a good reason to re-read books.
I keep saying that I’m going to re-read the Harry Potter series….
I’ve gone back and re-read Jane Eyre so many times since I first discovered it in 8th grade. It is my favorite.
I STILL haven’t read Jane Eyre! There never seems to be enough hours in the day to read novels lately.
I’ve read Envy by Sandra Brown prob 15 times, Lamb by Christopher Moore about 4 now and Dicey’s Song by Cynthia Voigt prob about 20 times over the years…there are a few others, but I just have some books that bring me comfort!
I think I’ve read Envy, but can’t remember. Do you know what year it came out? I had read everything she had written up until I was in college, but didn’t keep up with her new books that came out since.
2002. My copy is very well loved, but you can borrow it if you want OR get it from the library. It’s a good one. It’s about a publisher and some crazy shit!
I think I may have read it. I’ll need to look it up online and read the description. A publisher – that rings a bell….
Oh, I’m a huge re-reader – but only of science fiction/spec fic stuff. I buy almost everything I read in that genre, because when I don’t I almost always remember a story I read years later, and can’t remember what it was. I’ve since learned to just buy most of it. Much of the time though, I get it from the library first, and if I like it I go out and buy it, because I know I’ll miss it if I don’t.
I think I’m too cheap to buy too many books from the bookstore, but I use paperbackswap.com, or find them at yard sales….
An article about protecting the library in the digital age.

To me, if a book is sitting on a shelf collecting dust, it’s not a book.
Someone, somewhere can use it as it was meant to be used. Recently I passed on all the books I have that I could easily get from the library, such as classics and best sellers. I re-read sections or all of a few of my favorites, such as To Kill a Mockingbird, and those I keep. (I’m also surprised at how many people don’t know about or don’t use inter-library loan. I can’t even remember how many people I’ve explained it to. It’s at the very least, a way to preview books before you spend the money.) Happy Reading!!!
I LIVE for inter-library loan. I’m too lazy to go through the library and carry all the books I want so I just reserve them all online and then they’re all waiting for me at the counter! I love having a new commenter! Welcome
