My Mom

While brainstorming about what to write blogs about, I wanted to find a way for my readers to get to know some of the awesome people who I know.  The best way I could come up with was an interview series.

Meet my Mom.  We met at my birth.  (obviously!)  She’s one of the most kind-hearted people I know.  Always willing to lend a helping hand.  So… without further ado – here is my Mom.  :)

Age: 69

Location: My house –> Dutchess County, NY

Relationship Status: Happily Married for 49 years

Children: 4 – 3 sons & 1 daughter

Occupation: Takin’ it easy & lovin’ it!  spoiling my Grandkids – both 2 & 4 legged

What is the most challenging part of your job? Finding the nearest couch

If you could spend an evening with anyone from history, who would it be? Jesus Christ

What do you miss most about your childhood? Walking to the brook and swimming with the neighborhood kids.

What’s a goal in life you have yet to accomplish? Getting to heaven

What 5 things in life could you not live without? My husband and 4 kids

What’s your favorite snack? Drumstick Ice Cream Cones (not the chicken variety)

What super power do you wish you had? I’d love to be able to fly without stepping foot on an airplane.

What is your favorite movie? Ben Hur

How did you meet Dad? By remembering that the quickest way to get to a man’s heart is through his stomach!

What are your favorite flowers? I like roses, daisies, peonies, and gladiolas.

Who was your best friend growing up? Patsy

What was your favorite subject in high school? Math – I still enjoy puzzles with numbers like Sudoku.

Who’s your favorite grandchild? Elizabeth, Anne, Katie, Sofia, Jacob, Frank & Bella.  (Bella’s my 4 legged grandchild)

Where would you like to visit that you’ve never been? Greece

What is your favorite holiday and why? Christmas – for a few reasons.  I love to see happy children, I like Christmas music, our Christmas mass is always nice, and Rose usually cooks Christmas dinner.

Who’s your hero? My Mother was.  She had 9 children (I was the youngest), 30 grandchildren, 50+ great-grandchildren, and a number of great-great grandchildren before she passed away at 102 years old.  (And she remembered ALL of their names!!)

What is your favorite song? How Great Thou Art

Where do you go for your favorite ice cream? Holy Cow

The Weekly Re-cap: We talked about NY’s hideous yellow license plates and a woman who dresses in the dark and must not have any friends.  I shared a hilarious commercial with you and told you about a guy who’s famous for inventing nothing.  We talked about a recurring dream I have and a major typo made by a large company.

The Weekly Movie: Eclipse – I was worried I’d be disappointed or let down and it was awesome!!  David Slade did a great job as the director.  I loved the way the fight scenes were filmed!  Peter Facinelli was gorgeous as usual!!  (He was voted the wealthiest fictional character by Forbes this year. We also watched It’s Complicated.  Funny movie with Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.

The Weekly TV: Hot in Cleveland.  You guys know I love Betty White from my blogs here and here.  She’s hilarious along with Valerie Bertinelli (I loved her as Barbara on One Day At A Time), Jane Leeves (Who was awesome as Daphne on Frasier) and Wendie Malick (Who’s been in tons of things I love, but she is well-known as Nina Van Horn on Just Shoot Me).  A cool thing about this show that you don’t hear of too often anymore is that it’s filmed in front of a live studio audience.

The Weekly Downer: People who don’t return phone-calls.

The Weekly Food: This week we had Italian Mix Sandwiches, Egg Sandwiches, and kabobs 🙂

The Weekly Interesting Fact: The first toilet to flush in a motion picture was in the movie Psycho in 1960.

The Weekly Worst Piece of Crap on TV: Wipeout – I don’t get the point of this show.  Watching people get hurt has never amused me….

The Roses at the martini station were beautiful and the martini was really really good!

The Weekly Food: The food at the Hilton Garden Inn Albany Airport’s Grand Re-opening event was incredible!  The dessert room was a wonderful touch 🙂

The Weekly Amazing Fact: OMG Facts on Twitter points out: “Eleven plus Two” and “Twelve plus One” both equal 13 and both have 13 letters. In fact they both have THE SAME 13 letters.

Lately someone I know keeps coming out with the comment “That doesn’t inspire me.”
She wants to go to certain places to be creative and then when she arrives at the destination isn’t inspired.

Some things that inspire me are:

  • Intelligent People
  • Architecture
  • Music
  • Landscapes
  • Human Behavior
  • Children
  • Food

So I ask the question “What inspires you?”

Do you sit home because you have nothing to do?

Meetup has 100s of groups based on common interests that you can join.

We became part of our Motorcycle Club No Destination through meetup.com

Some of the bikes lined up with a few club members.

On meetup there are women’s groups, motorcycle groups, photography groups, Scrabble groups, scrapbooking groups, travel groups, cooking groups, dining groups, movie groups….  the list goes on and on….  You can go to the site to search all of the different groups based on where you live.

At the time I’m writing this there are 76,213 Meetup groups, 7,051,603 different Meetup groups, 6,025, 384 Meetup events have taken place, and there have been 67,635,015 RSVP’s.

Meetup.com is also great if you’re traveling and looking for something to do.  We have a member of our club who lives in Florida, but spends a lot of time working in New York.  He found the club online and joined us.

So next time you’re sitting home, bored with nothing to do – check out a meetup.com event and make some new friends 🙂

With No Destination – we’ve not only made some friends, we’ve made a new family 🙂
