[tweetmeme] This weekend in Parade there was an article that mentioned the following:

Scientists believe that lightning-bug numbers are declining worldwide.  As part of the volunteer Firefly Watch of Boston’s Museum of Science, you can assist researchers by collecting data.  Just spend 10 minutes a week to count evening activity in a yard or field.  Sign up at mos.org/fireflywatch.

This makes me sad.  I remember when I was a little girl going out to catch fireflies.  I grew up in the country so they were abundant.  I used to catch them in empty tomato sauce jars – (after I’d carefully poked holes in the lid of course.)  I’d like to think that future generations would have the opportunity to catch their lucky fireflies as well, but with less to catch it looks like many will miss out.

Did you catch fireflies as a child?
What kind of emotions do you feel when you think back to doing it?

Did you think it was lucky to catch one?

…at least if you ask me or just about anyone who grew up in Red Hook, NY!

Holy Cow ice cream is a landmark!!  Don’t just take my word for it, check out some reviews here.
They also have 2 Facebook pages.  Holy Cow Ice Cream and Holy Cow – Heaven in Red Hook.

Many people I know who have moved out of Red Hook, make it a point to visit Holy Cow prior to leaving town.
There’s a reason the line looked like this when I got there:

Line out the door and across the parking lot!

There is a reason that people are willing to wait on a line like this for ice cream!
Here’s what the line looked like about 45 minutes later:

Line STILL out the door.

Is there anything out there that you’re willing to wait on long lines for because it’s worth it??

(sorry for the horrible pictures, all I had was the camera on my phone)

Me with my bike ~ April 24, 2010

Saturday was a beautiful day in Upstate, NY.  Michael and I went out on our motorcycles.  It was kind of a big deal because I haven’t really gotten the chance to ride my bike for any distance since the end of 2008.  Last season when I took it out I pulled a few muscles trying to hold it up when it didn’t want to keep the shiny side up.  So this season I decided that I really want to ride again.  We went out to Richfield Springs – 132 miles round trip.  We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather.  Not too hot, not too cold.

Michael on his bike with the LowePro camera bag he is reviewing.

This is Michael on his bike.  He’s demoing a LowePro Flipside 300 camera bag that he’s going to write a review for.  He wanted to test it out on the bike and see how things went.  It looks like it was pretty comfortable.

What did you do or what do you plan to do this weekend?

Grillin'

For those of you that live in Upstate, NY, tomorrow is supposed to be the nice day of the weekend.  So get out there and fire up your bikes and then come back and fire up the grill.  I wish I could take credit for this picture, but I found it somewhere on the internet a while back.  Amusing isn’t it?

Any big plans for the weekend?

Bella cruisin'

It was a nice day out today.  So I took Bella with me crusin’ around town to do my errands.  She loved it and she got to meet 4 new people!  After I got home I took her for a walk around the block and she got to meet 3 new people at one of my neighbor’s houses.  Isn’t it kind of sad that this summer I’ll have been here 3 years and I only know a couple of my neighbors?  Now I know more 🙂  All in all Bella had a fun day.  She doesn’t get out much!

Did you do anything special with the weather being so nice out?

What a view!

I’ve been thinking about palm trees quite a bit lately.  I think some of it is because it got warm here for about a week, but then it got chilly again and I’m craving the warm weather.

Yankee Candle - Christmas At The Beach

At Christmas time I bought myself this candle.  It smells like a blend of pineapple, coconut and cilantro.  It’s beautiful!

Pandora Palm Tree Charm

This is the other palm tree that I love.  It’s Pandora’s Palm Tree Charm.  It’s sterling silver with little gold coconuts.
I think it’s adorable!  Hopefully I’ll be able to get it one of these days to add to my bracelet!

What do you think about when the weather starts to get warm?
