I got this shirt when I was down in Key West.  In the past when buying shirts – I tend to find certain brands I like and I stick to them.  The bulk of my wardrobe is Hard Rock Cafe, Harley Davidson, and NY & Co..

My love of all things Hard Rock started years ago.  My first Hard Rock shirt was from the Sky Dome in Toronto, Canada (I don’t think it’s there anymore – does anyone know?).  Later in life, I started searching for Hard Rock Cafes in my travels.

Then I started liking motorcycles and started visiting Harley dealerships….

NY & Co. – their clothes just fit me well 🙂

Do you have certain brands you love?
Is there a reason?

Eva Markvoort - Picture taken off of CNN site courtesy of Markvoort

My friend David emailed me a story from CNN today.  It was about a 25-year-old girl who lived in a suburb of Vancouver Canada named Eva Markvoort who died on March 27th of cystic fibrosis.  For those of you who don’t know cystic fibrosis is an incurable disease that causes mucus to accumulate in the lungs.

She started her blog in 2006 and narrated it to chronicle her life.  She called the blog 65RedRoses.  The name came from her childhood inability to pronounce cystic fibrosis.  She and many children refer to the disease as “65 roses.”  Markvoort added the word red because it was her favorite color.

The blog followed her on her journey with her disease while she waited for a double lung transplant.  Eva GOT her lung transplant and appeared to be on the path of recovery.  Almost 2 years after, her body started rejecting the lungs and every breath became a battle.  Her blog reflected the battle and at time was hard-core and raw as far as her vomiting, gasping for breath, etc.

Despite her physical difficulties, Eva kept the main focus of her blogging to be about love.  In a video entry where she talks about her impending death, Markvoort said: “I think I’m very lucky, because I’ve loved more than you could possibly think, could possibly imagine. So I’m celebrating that: celebrating my life.”

From CNN:

She championed cystic fibrosis awareness and organ donations. From Los Angeles to Poland, letters, stuffed animals and cards poured into her hospital room.

“I felt so selfish when I stumbled across your [LiveJournal] on here, because I’ve been smoking cigarettes for years, taking my lungs for granted. You helped me quit the worst habit I’ve ever had,” one wrote.

When Markvoort was too frail, she dictated blog posts to her friends and family.

“She had already processed the concept of dying,” her mother said. “And for her, she came to terms with it quite quickly. For her it was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I don’t know how much time I have. I have things to say.’ There was a sense of urgency on her part.”

Sometimes, her posts have no words, just pictures of her and her loved ones, with their eyes crossed, tongues sticking out and comical gestures.

So today say a prayer for a girl who fought to the end and spread the message of love while on her journey.  Check out her blog.  I particularly enjoyed the pictures tag.  You can tell she was loved by her friends and family.
