I’d be so happy about a floor!!!
[tweetmeme]

When I bought my house about 3 years ago, I reserved the extra bedroom as an office.   Within a couple of weeks I had the ugly 70s rubber-backed carpeting pulled up.  What a mess it made!  Whoever designed that type of carpet should refund everyone who has to deal with removing one!!  Michael scraped up as much of the dry rotted rubber as he could.  He was working at it for days.  It was quite a job.  Eventually he got around to painting the room, and then it sat… and sat… and waited… and wanted….  Until this weekend when finally the hardwood floor was installed.  I was cranky and impatient for 3 years because I wanted my office to be finished.  Trying to work in my sun-room isn’t the easiest thing in the world.  Well, take a look – I think it was worth the wait!!

A HUGE Thank You goes out to my friends Kevin & John for helping me get the job done!!  They even put up the molding for me!  They’re truly awesome!  And I’m so glad they had fun while they were doing it!  They made the job pass so quickly!  Good humor goes a long way!!

Isabella checking things out

While we were laying out the floor Michael said “A tree gave it’s life so you could have a nice floor.”  LOL!

This floor feels a little different....

Oh – before I forget – To Gail (Kevin’s wife) Kevin really really really wants an air nailer.  You should have seen the HUGE smile he got on his face when he started using it!!  I think he was sad when I had to return it to the rental shop!!  LOL!

"I don't have much traction...."

So, now that the floor is in – do any of you have ideas for office furniture? I can be picky, but here is the main criteria:

  • Can’t look like college dorm furniture
  • Needs to have file drawers that are deep
  • Needs to be STURDY and have good sliders on the drawers
  • Preferably wood and not laminate
  • Economical Price
  • Large desk surface space

I’d love for a company to come along with an office setup product review right about now 🙂
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend – the weather was beautiful for most of it!

Leave me a comment if you have any office furniture ideas and also while you’re at it, tell me if you did anything fun this weekend!

[tweetmeme] I have friends that send me all kinds of messages like this.  This one has many good lessons to remember.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.
Mental Feng Shui

ONE. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE. Don’t believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR. When you say, ‘I love you,’ mean it.

FIVE. When you say, ‘I’m sorry,’ look the person in the eye.

SIX. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN. Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone’s dreams. People who don’t have dreams don’t have much.

NINE. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it’s the only way to live life completely.

TEN. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

ELEVEN. Don’t judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE. Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN! . . . When someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, smile and ask, ‘Why do you want to know?’

FOURTEEN. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN. Say ‘bless you’ when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN. . When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

SEVENTEEN. Remember the three R’s: Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

TWENTY ONE. Spend some time alone.

A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart

She pulled her shirt down slightly just before I took the picture….
Let’s just say I could see through the pants that she had jewels in the shape of a heart on her thong….
If I can see that, it’s not good….

As some of you know, I love to go to yard sales / tag sales / estate sales / rummage sales – whatever you want to call them.  This past Friday I picked up a book called 101 Ways to Find God’s Purpose For Your Life.  There were lots of good points in this book.  Now I don’t want to turn my blog into a religious blog.  Even though I am religious, I don’t push my thoughts and beliefs on others except to say that the 10 commandments all boil down to the “Golden Rule” – Do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.

Anywho – this book does make good points.

#1 – Discover Your Strengths

“Think back to when you were a child.  What were some of your favorite things to do?  Did you care for injured animals, love to draw pictures, or delight in playing with friends?  Now think of the ways those traits manifest themselves in your life today.  Do you still collect “strays” – animals or people?  Do you express yourself artistically through decorating and creating?  Do you love to fix broken things?  Do you enjoy opening your home to family and friends?”

This got me thinking.  I do tend to collect strays.  I have always been one of those people who tries to be friendly to everyone.  I’m the one who tries to find the wall-flower or shy person and draw them into the conversation.  Sometimes it is more of a challenge than others.  I do tend to be that kind of friend that will drop everything to help a friend who needs it.   I never noticed until recently that people who do this seem to be a rarity.  The older I get the more I look around and notice that so many people seem to be out for themselves and couldn’t give-a-crap about the person standing next to them.  Where did common decency go??  It makes me sad.

Recently I had a friend tell me I need to learn to be more of a self-centered-Bitch.  Can you believe it?  In no way am I a door-mat, but I give too much of myself and then I end up getting my feelings hurt by those people I gave to because they show their true colors and don’t care about anyone but themselves.  Apparently I don’t fit into the take-take-take society that’s appearing all around me….

I always considered it my strength that I could help people.  Lately it’s turning out to be more of a weakness, but I keep hoping that will change.  I do have some friends that do appreciate all that I have to offer with my friendship, but I’ve also learned that many take it for granted.  In times of crisis you learn who’s a friend to value and who’s the friend who’s all for themselves.

What strengths, gifts and talents do you have?
Do you use them to help people?

This past week has been one of those weeks where Michael and I helped where we could.

We may not have much money, but we do have friends, we do have hands that can work, we do have strength for friends who need more….

Sometimes the support of a friend means so much more than anything that money can buy….

Remember, lend an ear when a friend needs someone to listen, or a shoulder when they need to cry.
Lend your presence when they’re lonely, and a hand when they need help up.

Treat your friends as you’d like to be treated in return.

Betty White with the cast of The Golden Girls

Something occurred to me around the time of the Super Bowl.  At what point are we proud to be old?  I got thinking about it when I saw Betty White all over the place.  We all know her from The Golden Girls but that was 20ish years ago.  She’s been in many things – just check out her IMDB profile…  Recently she was in the movie The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.  She won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAG Awards.  (The press release from them was awesome!!)  Then she was in the Snicker’s commercial during the Super Bowl.  Next I was asked to join (back then it was still join – instead of “like”) the Betty White to Host SNL (Please?)! fan page on Facebook.

After it was confirmed that Betty White will be hosting SNL, Larry King had her on his show Larry King Live for an interview.  (March 17, 2010)  Larry made a comment that Betty was 88 years young.  He said when you get to be that age you’re proud to say it.  Betty replied that she didn’t know where the breaking point was.  “at first you try to hide it and then you begin to brag about it.  Now I’m to the point of hello, I’m Betty White, I’m 88.

KING: How do you explain your longevity?

WHITE: Sheer, blind luck.  I’m the luckiest old broad that ever drew breath.

KING: Just luck?

WHITE: Just…

KING: No talent?WHITE: Well, I mean I think – I think the reason for the longevity is that people have generations – several generations have – have gotten to know me over the years.  So I’ve become sort of part of a – you know, you have relatives that you’re not thrilled with – sort of part of the family.

Later in the interview Larry asked her about her age again:

KING: Did you ever think you would be 88?  Or you don’t think about it?

White: I think I learned at my mother’s knee, we never thought age.  Everybody else is so age conscious.  You go for a long time – no, not wanting anybody to know how old you are.  And then you pass a breaking point.  I can’t tell you where that comes, where then you brag about it.  I don’t think – it’s my health and my energy that I’m so blessed with and so grateful for, that I’m busy being grateful for that, rather than worrying about how old I am.

Betty White on Larry King Live

I got a good laugh when Larry asked her about if she got “romantic urges” and then later said “Last night was terrific, right?” and then about a month later he and his wife are separated….

Betty White

This weekend is what 509,240 (at the time I’m writing this) fans of the Betty White to Host SNL (Please?)! page have been waiting for.  This Saturday night May 8th Betty White WILL be hosting Saturday Night Live.  I’m planning to set my DVR for it, but I’m also hoping to be able to watch it live from my hotel room while I’m on vacation.

I wish I knew at what point we’re supposed to go from “29 and holding” to being proud of our age.  I asked my Mother when she noticed it in my Grandmother and she thought it was sometime in her 80’s.  It’s almost as if she was thinking “I’m proud to be 97, I’ve outlived all those other people!

Hopefully one day I’ll be a bold, full of life, outgoing older woman like Betty and my Grandma 🙂

Have you ever thought about this?  Do you see it with some of the older people in your life?
