My Delicious Pizza!

We’ve already talked about the best ice cream in the world.  Now we’re going to talk about the best pizza.  Villiage Pizza III is in Red Hook, NY.  Like Holy Cow,  it is a local landmark.

It was night time and dark 😦

Just like Holy Cow I know many people who have moved out of Red Hook who make sure they stop by Village Pizza for a visit whenever they’re in town.

I’ve spoken to many people about what I consider to be the “best pizza.”  Many people think it’s all about what you grew up on.  If you grew up eating thin crust – that’s what you like.  If you grew up on deep dish – you think that’s the best.  The pizza here is thin crust with just the right amount of sauce so it doesn’t get soggy.  Perfection if you ask me!  I spent so much time there growing up that I can hear the familiar squeak and slam of the front door in the place!

I moved to Pittsburgh for a couple years.  I brought a Village Pizza pie back with me so they could taste what real pizza was supposed to taste like.  Little Caesars is NOT real pizza!  Neither is Pizza Hut!!

Even Isabella understands good pizza!

I grew up on Village Pizza and I love it!  Order me up a slice with cold cheese (or mushrooms – or both) and I’m in heaven!  (So is Miss Isabella!)

One bite just wasn't enough!

Where do you get your favorite pizza from??  What makes it the best?

Trader Joe's Baked Cheese Crunchies

While Michael & I were in Pittsburgh we went to Trader Joe’s to stock up on a few things we were out of.  While we were there I walked by a display of “cheesy poofs” and even though I don’t normally eat “cheesy poofs” I was oddly in the mood for them.  After we checked out I opened them on the walk out to the car.  I almost sent Michael back in to buy a few more bags.  THEY WERE SOOOOOO GOOD!!  And ya know what?  I loved that even after eating them my hands weren’t orange!! Amazing isn’t it?

Look Mom! NO orange fingers!!

I know, I know, it’s a horrible picture of me, but the point is that my fingers aren’t orange after eating them!!  I will be buying more of these next time I go to Trader Joe’s for sure!!

For those of you who didn’t comment on my last Trader Joe’s blog:

Do you have a Trader Joe’s store near you?
If you do, what is your favorite thing from there??

Michael & I at the 2010 Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade

Is bigger always better?  I’ve always said anyone who says “Size doesn’t matter” is an out-right liar.  But I follow that statement up to say “Bigger isn’t necessarily always better.”  Notice in the picture of Michael and I at the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade I am wearing 1 big set of big green beads (It’s a long strand I had doubled up) and Michael has on a pile of smaller beads.  Would you rather have 1 big set or a bunch of small ones?

What are your thoughts on this?  Does size really matter??

Happy Groundhog Day!!

Today is Groundhog Day.  Today is the day that Punxsutawney Phil shows his face.  The question is will he run back into his hole or not….  Folklore states that if a groundhog (Marmota Monax) comes out from its hole on Groundhog Day and doesn’t see it’s shadow it will leave it’s hole and this signifies that winter will end soon.  If he DOES see his shadow the groundhog will supposedly retreat back into it’s hole signifying that winter will continue for another 6 weeks.  This hasn’t ever made sense to me.  You’d think that if the sun was out it would be warmer, but seeing that shadow is what will make winter longer….  It’s always confused me….

The most popular Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, PA which is located in Western Pennsylvania about 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.  This holiday is celebrated in the United States and Canada.

Punxsutawney, PA

In Punxsutawney they take Groundhog Day seriously.
Punxsutawney Phil their resident groundhog has his own website
as well as his own tour bus:

Phil's Ride

Punxsutawney Phil has his hole at Gobbler’s Knob where it’s predicted to be
8 degrees F with winds NE at 1 mph today.

Phil is rumored to be the most photographed Pennsylvanian.
I’ve even taken a picture of the Weather Predictor Extraordinaire:

Phil at the Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade 2008

There is an Official Punxsutawney Groundhog Club
which coordinates the festivities.
They even have a little Mr. & Miss Groundhog Crowning
on page 4 of their events page.
It is today at 11AM if anyone’s in the area.

If you have kids, there are some neat activities on their page as well.
They also talk about the movie Groundhog Day.

Have any of you ever attended a Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsutawney or elsewhere?
